G'day,
On the various charts, DME is listed as a number followed by an X [see TAC-4 Sydney in which it states DME: 58X]. What does this mean?

The X and Y suffix on the DME has no particular operational significance. Technical references to X and Y channels relate only to the spacing of the individual pulses in the DME pulse pair, 12 microsecond spacing for X channels and 30 microsecond spacing for Y channels. It's all a bit beyond us humble pilots. We just dial up the VOR and let the 'white man's magic' do its work.
