Hi Bob,

I've failed IREX twice now but not through a lack of understanding etc, and are keen to pass it a third time. Anyway, my question is, what are the factors that determine whether the rated coverage you choose is over water or land? If I was flying from Tasmania to Mount Gambier (SA), which one would you pick? Mount Gambier is in land, but the flight is mainly over water.

Cheers,
Aaron

There is no definitive policy on that one as far as I know. What I have always told students is, if an over water coverage is listed in ERSA and the track to the aid is contained in a segment that is mainly over water, use the over water coverage. If the aid is a significant distance from the coast there will be no over water coverage published so that solves that problem.
