Hi Bob and Rich

Just a question I have working though your book on page 3.11 Q1 with regards to Oakey aerodrome. Runway 09 NDB approach has a minimum of (2065-4.4) while the rest of the runways and approaches have a minimum of (1335-4.4) . In your example you have used (1335-4.4) so for flight planning purpose is it legal to use the lowest minimum?. My thinking is you have a pretty good idea of what runway you will be using due to forecast wind, but as we all know what really is happening at the aerodrome can be totally different

thanks Scott

The NDB alternate minima is for aircraft that have no other option but to do an NDB approach. Either the aircraft has no other aids or the pilot is not endorsed/current on any other approach. There is no reason why you couldn't use the lower alternate minima if you had the aids and were current to use them. After all,why would they publish the lower minima if you always had to use the higher minima.
