Can some one help me with this Question,

METAR 3km vis with RASH SCT 0030
FM 1200 vis 8km SCT 1500

If you plan to arrive at 1200 will you only need

30 mins of holding fuel Or and alternate ?

Thanks
Dan

G'day!

Since the weather is going from bad to good, you have to apply a "Murphy's Law" buffer of 30 minutes when working out if you have an OPR (operational requirement) of an alternate or holding. For an arrival at 1200, you would therefore still use the "3000 SHRA SCT 0030" and as you can see, the 3000m visibility would impose an OPR on a VFR flight.

You would need either 30 minutes holding or an alternate (but not both).

Cheers,

Rich
