Hi Bob,

Just checking i completely understand sub clause 3.2 of Appendix 4 in flight time limitations.

lets say I did a flight duty period of 10hrs with a split duty of 4hrs with sleeping accomodation starting at 0700 (FDP 10hrs) so 14 hrs in total, which left home base and deposited me back at home base.

0700 — 1200 is FDP - - - 1200 — 1600 is sleep - - - 1600 — 2100 is FDP

I can shorten the break time by 2hrs (50% for the first 4 hrs) to calculate to next off duty period.

So total FDP is now 12hrs

Answer - the break time needed before the next shift is 12hrs

Is this how sub clause 3.2 works?.

Cheers Dan.

In your example, the FDP can be reduced to 12 hours, that is correct. So you then need to check sub paragraph 8.1(b)(i). The off duty period following that 12 hour FDP would need to be not less than 12 hours since you have no displacement time.
